Some thoughts

These are my thoughts on the rumored controller for the Wii Successor.

For those who don't know, according to IGN, the rumored controller is supposed to have a screen on it.

With rumors like this, I think the best course of action is to try and figure out how it would benefit game play.  Using Super Smash Bros as an example, I could see this being used for the character select screen, so that you could keep your character a secret until the match begins.  During the match, I think it could be used for keeping the main screen clean.  Only you could see the damage percentage, and how many lives you have left.  Adding to the frantic nature of the game.  I also see it allowing someone to go into the options while not stopping everyone else from selecting their character.

If this rumor turns out to be true, I have two concerns with this:

1.  How much is this going to cost? I thought that the price for the stand alone Wii Remote was expensive. And this is just assuming that the controller will just feature a screen, this isn't going into the additional rumors of the screen being in HD, or that it will also be a touch screen.

2. The battery life. If this is still going to be a wireless controller, it's either going to eat through batteries, or need constant recharging.

I think it's time that I let a small secret out of the bag:

hate batteries!

When bought a PS3, one of my first purchases was a third party controller that had a wire long enough, so I didn't have to rely on the short USB cord that came with the PS3.

For the Wii, I hate constantly having to worry if I have more batteries somewhere.  Or if any of my rechargeable batteries are charged.

And in games like Super Mario Galaxy 2, where they play an annoying ringing sound when your battery is almost dead, I find it distracting, and it destroys the immersion.

If there is a screen on this Wii Successor controller,  I'm hoping for a wired controller.
